General Manager, Strategy and Business Development

Russell has been setting the strategic roadmap and managing business development for the organisation since joining Unico in early 2006. He uses the operational, technical and business knowledge he has gained from over 20 years in telecommunications and IT to manage Unico’s substantial growth.

Before joining Unico, Russell held several senior management roles with Maxis, Malaysia’s leading telecommunications company. These included a secondment as Head of Engineering for Natrindo Telepon Selular when Maxis expanded into Indonesia, and General Manager ─ Technology Strategy and Business Development.

Before his time in Malaysia, Russell spent 19 years in both engineering and development roles in wireless technology with Telstra, where he contributed to the development of multiple generations of mobile networks and associated products and services.

Seeing the results of the business development and strategy efforts at this exciting time of Unico’s growth is one of the things he particularly enjoys about his work.

When he wants to relax, Russell gets his Golf clubs out and will tell (in the true tradition of the amateur golfer) that it is not the score that counts but simply playing the game.

Russell has a Bachelor of Engineering from RMIT University.
