Between 6pm on Dec 31 and 6am on Jan 1, Telstra mobile customers sent and received over 63 million SMS’s including 29 million in the 4 busiest hours between 10pm and 2am.
A Unico developed platform, MINT (Mobile Intelligent Number Translator) which acts as a signalling relay function for all incoming mobile calls and SMS was continuously handling over 2000 messages per second for that 4 hour period (with voice calls above and beyond that).
MINT, like most Unico systems, has been architected for massive scalability and extremely high availability and handled this load in its stride.
