Congratulations to the Ardoch Youth Foundation on their 21st birthday! Ardoch is just one of the organisations supported by the Unico Community Fund.

Ardoch is a community-funded organisation that works with disadvantaged children and families to make education a reality.

This year Unico staff are taking part in the Ardoch “Literacy Buddies” program. The program is designed to:

• encourage students to read and write so they improve their literacy skills
• make literacy fun
• connect students to education by providing them with positive working role models

We exchange letters once a month with 23 4th graders at Aldercourt Primary school in Frankston North. A mid-year visit to the school is planned and at the end of the year they’ll visit us for a Christmas celebration.

The message from the class teacher after receiving the first letters: “The children at Aldercourt were ‘jumping with joy’ when they got their letters: It is humbling how much hope this gives these kids that there is something more ‘out there’ and that ‘the world’ is more than Frankston!”
