This weekend Australia’s brightest IT talent will converge on Unico to design, develop and demonstrate innovative web applications in a single weekend as part of the annual Google Technology User Group (GTUG) Campout, an annual event with over 30 participating cities from Silicon Valley to Tokyo. Participants form teams and brainstorm ideas on Saturday morning, and then have the rest of the weekend to build their applications before presenting their work to a global audience on Sunday evening.

This year’s Campout is all about the emerging HTML5 standard. Leon Gouletsas, who manages GTUG’s Melbourne chapter, explains: “HTML5 introduces a number of new features that enable developers to create powerful interactions natively within the browser. Google have been wonderful supporters in encouraging developers to demonstrate what’s possible.” GTUG provides learning and networking opportunities in 51 countries for developers who use Google technologies.

The event is proudly sponsored by Unico, an independent Australian IT solutions company that focuses on helping customers to get ahead by applying technology in creative and practical ways. Peter Haasz, General Manager of Unico’s Enterprise IT Solutions business, explains the decision to support GTUG: “Unico is a company of smart people who get a buzz out of doing hard things that make a real difference. Supporting events like this is a no-brainer”.

The Melbourne event kicks off at Unico’s Melbourne Headquarters on Saturday, 14th August and is limited to 60 participants.
